Wusum Gallery is thrilled to announce the official launch of its contemporary art gallery in Doha. Dedicated to showcasing the talents of early, mid-career, and established artists from Qatar and the region, Wusum Gallery seeks to nurture artistic excellence and celebrate the diverse contributions of artists who have paved the way for the regional art scene to flourish.
The gallery takes its name from the ancient Arab tradition of tribal signs, known as "Wusum". This ancestral practice, passed down through generations, serves as a symbol of continuity and connection with heritage. By embracing this cultural legacy, Wusum Gallery aims to foster dialogue and inspire a deeper appreciation for the arts across history and disciplines.
Under the leadership of the Gallery Director Elina Sairanen, Wusum Gallery is set to debut with its inaugural exhibition, "Revolving Room," which celebrates the individual voices and artistic expressions of more than twenty contemporary artists from Doha. The exhibition will run from 17 January to 28 February, accompanied by a grand opening reception and an engaging public programme.
Elina Sairanen, the Gallery Director, expressed her enthusiasm for the opening, stating: “Wusum Gallery aims to present an engaging inaugural exhibition highlighting the richness of the Qatari contemporary art scene.”
Wadha Al-Aqeedi, the cofounder and director of Wusum Gallery, expressed her excitement about the opening: "It is an honour to partner with the visionary entrepreneur and prominent art collector, Tariq Al-Jaidah, in the establishment of Wusum Gallery. Together, we are thrilled to unveil our new space at Eiwan Al Gassar in Doha, presenting our inaugural group exhibition 'Revolving Room'. We invite all art lovers, collectors, and the public to join us in celebrating the vibrant art scene in Qatar during our opening on 17 January 2024. Your presence is the present."
Tariq Al-Jaidah, the cofounder of the gallery, shared his enthusiasm and vision: “This partnership represents our shared commitment to providing a platform for local and regional artists, as well as fostering a sustainable art ecosystem that encourages creative exploration and innovation.”
Spanning over 1000m², the gallery space features three exhibition areas, conceived to provide a vibrant environment for art enthusiasts, collectors, and artists alike. Wusum Gallery's programme will include solo and group exhibitions by artists within and beyond its roster. Through collaborations and innovative artistic endeavours, Wusum Gallery aims to support the growth and development of the local and regional art community.
